METASTANCE

If you need real help

If you are in immediate danger, or thinking about ending your life, stop reading this and contact one of the numbers below. Metastance is not a crisis service, is not staffed by people, and cannot help with this.

Emergency and crisis lines

This list is not exhaustive and numbers change. If your country is not here, search for your national emergency number and your national crisis line, or contact a doctor. The International Association for Suicide Prevention maintains a directory of crisis centres by country.

14 of 17 entries have not yet been confirmed against the operator. If a number does not answer, call your national emergency number.

Things Metastance is not

It is not therapy, not a substitute for it, and not care. It does not diagnose, treat, or give medical advice, and it is not monitored by anyone — nobody reads your conversation and decides you need help.

If what you are dealing with is long-standing rather than situational — something that has shaped years rather than a week — a professional is the right person, and that is not a judgement about severity. A conversation here can help you think. It is a different thing.

Talking to someone

A doctor or a health centre is a reasonable first contact almost anywhere, and can point you onward. So can a psychologist, a psychotherapist, or an occupational health service through your employer. If cost is the obstacle, ask about public services and sliding-scale fees — in most countries they exist and are under-used.
